OLIVIA GIANGRASSO

Describe yourself in 5 words?
Passionate. Creative. Particular. Ambitious. Determined.

How does design imbue your life day-to-day?
I constantly see all my surroundings through a design lens – objects, art, product, spaces, places. When I see things that are designed well, I take notice and I get fixated on things that are unique and stand out…that’s what excites and inspires me the most.

I Am Woman was designed to inspire the future of women in business, so with that in mind, if you could you give one piece of advice to young females, what would it be?
Adopt a regime and mentality with razor sharp focus as nothing comes on a platter; seek out mentors who inspire you to take initiative; take each obstacle as an opportunity to grow and learn; be prepared to work hard and make sacrifices and never let anyone tell you that you have limits.

If you ran the world for a day...what three things would you implement/change?
I would endeavour to leave my mark through understanding and then implementing the three actions that would deliver the greatest positive change to the largest number of people across the globe.

How do you spend time outside of work?
Scheming, dreaming and planning holidays as well as relaxing, eating and seeing close friends and family. What city fits your style and aesthetic most?
Palermo, Buenos Aires - a neighbourhood in BA that is scattered with unique shops, art and bars but is extremely clean and vibrant, but most of all, feels distinctive and not at all commercial.

What trends are you loving at the moment whether it be fashion, interiors, beauty or food.
My style is definitely more timeless over trends, however I love the rapid blurring of the physical and digital world when it comes to design and the shift towards a far more interactive, immersive and experiential society eg, shopping centres in Shibuya where you can digitally try on clothing to sensorial restaurants like Noma in Copenhagen.

In this rapidly changing world, how would you improve sustainability globally.
Education for all on the science and outcomes that are needed to make a difference, supported by the right solutions and people in charge to drive results and positive change.

If you woke up tomorrow as the leader of your country, what are the top three things you would address?

Greater focus on actions and outcomes. Australia’s climate impact as well as delivering conservation programmes to protect and conserve. Preserving & celebrating Indigenous Australian culture.

If you didn't end up in your career what other job would you have done and why?
It’s always been design, but I remember being absolutely fascinated with Ancient Egypt growing up which led me to wanting to be an Archaeologist as I loved the idea of the travel and discovery.

Do you have any upcoming projects or events you want to share with us?
Having joined the WMK Architecture team this year I love the opportunity to work across so many unique and interesting design projects – the great thing about design is that there is a constant stream of projects and events across all industries and geographies that keeps me inspired.

We would love to know which two products from KFive+Kinnarps are your favourite.
- Love the Finnish flair of the Nikari, December Lounge chair. Also love the Swedish Glimakra, Buildup R8 Pods which are beautifully detailed and finished.

What woman in your life would you like to thank and why?

My beautiful mum – for dedicating her life to raising me with unconditional love and for always making me laugh along the way.
