Geelong Design '21
This month KFive had the opportunity to participate in the Geelong Design Week 2021. The event took place in the much-awarded Geelong Library by ARM Architects and proved to be the perfect venue for the presentation by Tony Lee, Founder of the Robin Boyd Foundation.
Tony's talk discussed Boyd's approach to design set against the backdrop of an Australia emerging from the second World War in a time of scarcity and the dire need for affordable housing. As the first director of the Small Homes Service, a partnership begun in 1947 between the Royal Victorian Institute of Architects and The Age newspaper, Boyd used the service as a design laboratory to develop approaches that would continue through his esteemed career.
The talk, depth of research and knowledge in Tony’s presentation resonated with all attendees, generating ongoing discussions after, in the auditorium until we all needed to leave!
In keeping with the Design Focus, KFive was able to set up a display of Robin Boyd furniture items in the National Wool Museum for the week. All items were made by KFive under licence from the Boyd Foundation help support the Foundation and their ongoing legacy of Robin Boyd.
Our thanks to Tony for his informative talk and to our KFive Geelong representative Lisa Cunningham, who organized this event on behalf of KFive.
