Project
The Embassy of Australia, Washington DC
The embassy interior celebrates the warm and tactile qualities of the Australian bush, the dappled light which falls upon it and the vastness of the Australian outback.
The main representational spaces are defined by a strong sense of materiality with Australian eucalypt timber panels organised around a series of textured horizontal bands that transition from rough to smooth.
A key element of the design was the staff hub, a series of breakout spaces vertically linked by a feature stair within the controlled access zone, encouraging staff to move easily between departments and social spaces.
